Set within a Victorian terrace in Stanmore, Sydney’s Inner West, this renovation reworked the rear of the home to create a more open and connected kitchen and living space.
The existing kitchen was relatively enclosed, so the project became a broader spatial-planning exercise rather than a simple cabinetry replacement. Opening the kitchen to the adjoining room created a more generous shared space, while the new layout was carefully developed around the home’s existing structural constraints, including a load-bearing wall.
The owners’ collection of Danish furniture and glassware helped shape the design direction. Warm Australian Ironbark veneer, simple white cabinetry and restrained detailing give the kitchen a contemporary Scandinavian character, while dedicated display storage allows personal pieces to become part of the interior.
A central island provides preparation space, storage and a natural connection between the kitchen and living area, while maintaining comfortable circulation through the narrow terrace footprint.
The result is a cohesive kitchen renovation that feels more connected to the home and better suited to everyday living and entertaining.
