Wahroonga Kitchen Project

Dan Kitchens were tasked with transforming an underutilised area of this Wahroonga home, comprising of separate rooms, into one cohesive kitchen space connected to the outdoors. The clients desired a larger kitchen, and the connection to the outdoors was also very important, as they enjoyed outdoor entertaining and nature. Working with the builder, internal walls were removed and a large opening at the rear of the residence was made for the installation of stacking doors.

This opening created a connection to the outdoor entertaining area and backyard which transformed the rear of the home into a light-filled, green space. Warm-white coloured gloss polyurethane doors and a smoked mirror splashback were specified for the kitchen so as to reflect the light entering, further enhancing the brightness. A strikingly veined Smartstone benchtop island provides a luxurious focal point to the kitchen without overpowering.

A practical L-shaped kitchen with large island.

The veined man-made stone island becomes a visual focal point against the warm-white of the kitchen doors.

The inside of the island contains numerous drawers with different storage options.

The grey smoked mirror reflects the greenery of the backyard, further connecting the two spaces.

The honey coloured native timber floor and the greenery beyond are the main sources of colour in the room, so it was decided to keep the kitchen doors and surfaces neutral so as not to compete.

A large stacker door was installed to connect the outside entertaining area with the new kitchen.

Le Mans corner units are ideal for accessibility but the drawback is they are less space efficient.
