Northmead 2 Kitchen Project

Dan Kitchens Australia completed this striking Northmead kitchen renovation, designed by Vagn Madsen as part of an extensive renovation to a Federation-era property. The new wing of the home, built by Rivergum Building Services, introduces soaring ceilings, skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows that contrast beautifully with the original period detailing, while remaining seamlessly connected.

The kitchen plays a pivotal role in linking old and new. Elements such as shaker-profile doors, the decorative island panelling, and aged bronze knobs reference the home’s Federation character, while modern conveniences like motorised drawers and integrated appliances ground the design in the present. The custom rangehood, with its traditional styling, reinforces this careful dialogue between eras.

The standout feature is the island benchtop and splashback in Pink Cristallo Quartzite. With its lively swirls of soft pink veining accented by fine gold and dark lines, the stone injects a sense of energy and individuality into the space. More than a visual statement, its quartzite composition ensures excellent durability and ease of care—qualities highly valued by the busy family of four who call this house home. The result is a kitchen that is both refined and resilient, timeless yet contemporary.

The kitchen boasts a large detailed island, spacious cooking zone and a generous butlers pantry.

The space is blessed with ample natural light and relaxing views of the gardens.

In this instance, small features like pendant lights, bronze taps and recessed panels help the kitchen connect with the original Federation cottage.

The kitchen sits central in this spacious extension, with living and formal dining on either side.
