After purchasing this modern, multi-terraced home in sort after Mosman, the homeowners discovered the existing kitchen did not suit their lifestyle. It had an impractical and inefficient layout, with a pokey, poorly lit area for dining, and a small L-shaped kitchen with a modest island (see picture below). The kitchen design was lacking in bench space and storage – a real problem for this family of avid cooks and teenage children. The kitchen also featured an unusually sloped tall cabinet section that, although mimicking the line of the ceiling, it reduced the storage space and visually stood out.
Dan Kitchens Australia became involved in this luxury kitchen renovation after being recommended by the homeowner’s builder. Utilising the Dan Kitchens Design Service, the homeowners briefed the Dan Kitchens design team on their needs, desires and goals for their new kitchen.
High up on that list was a pantry with benchspace for meal preparation and small appliances. Daniel Mazic, Industrial Designer at Dan Kitchens Australia was the principal designer on this project. He explains “The family was looking to increase the size of the kitchen and storage, utilising the space efficiently and practically. By moving the space allotted for dining into the already expansive living room, it freed up area for a hidden pantry”.
The style of kitchen was inspired by the beach, with warm hues, timber flooring and sandy grey Taj Mahal Quartzite. Most of the kitchen doors are made from rift-cut American Oak, complete with a modern narrow shaker profile. The focal point, as with many kitchens, is the island.
This island is clad in Taj Mahal stone slabs, with the benchtop slabs being book-matched. At night, LED strip lighting at the bar area illuminates the stone work.
