Located in Killarney Heights, this family home underwent extensive renovation to create a more practical rear living zone with a stronger connection to outdoor entertaining. Dan Kitchens was tasked with combining several rooms into one flowing arrangement comprising the kitchen, scullery, laundry and bar. Internal walls were removed and reconfigured to open the rear of the home and create a larger open-plan kitchen and entertaining area.
The purpose-built scullery and laundry were designed to sit discreetly beside the kitchen and can be closed away when not in use. A bar positioned near the outdoor dining area helps connect the kitchen with the external entertaining zone. The kitchen combines traditional and modern influences, with detailed veneer work, Shaker-style panels and marble-look stone benchtops and splashbacks creating a consistent material language.
The project demonstrates the spatial-planning approach used across Dan Kitchens’ kitchen renovations on Sydney’s North Shore.
The rear of the home was reconfigured and opened up to create a combined kitchen and bar area, with laundry and scullery easily accessible in the adjoining rooms.

The scullery is directly off the kitchen and is ideal for benchtop appliances.
Although the scullery is hidden behind a door, it is finished to the same level of detail as the kitchen, complete with a stainless steel benchtop.
The bar is ideally situated next to the outdoor entertaining area.

Although the kitchen and bar are combined, thought has gone into how the two are visually divided into discrete zones.

The completed renovation brings the kitchen, scullery, laundry and bar into a more connected arrangement at the rear of the home. Removing and reworking internal walls creates a larger entertaining space, while the combination of timber veneer, Shaker detailing and stone surfaces gives the different joinery areas a consistent material language.
