Dural Project

Some of Sydney’s grandest homes are to be found in the city’s hinterland. Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Mountains, a magnificent residence designed by Darryl Lock Studio sits proudly amongst its peers. Known as the Dural project by Dan Kitchens, the expansive and very private family home was completely fitted out in exquisite Jarrah joinery, carefully following the architect’s master plan which made extensive use of the deeply coloured and much loved Australian native timber species. As the accompanying photography shows, the substantial home is surrounded by green pastures and a distant tree line. Whether admiring the views from the inside or the outside, massive, solid Jarrah posts and beams firmly anchor the property and provide context for the equally substantial timber and joinery elements that define the interiors of this project.

Charged with milling down slabs of timber and turning them into delicate lattice panels or sleek veneered panels, Dan Kitchens clearly met the brief. Skills honed over decades were employed in the fabrication and installation of joinery in every corner of this home. From the study to the den and from the double island kitchen to the bay window seating and the various bathroom vanities, the architect and client’s vision was carefully and fastidiously executed by a company well practiced in such demanding projects.

Quality and sophisticated European hardware and fittings built into the joinery by Dan Kitchens will provide reliability, durability, ease of use, satisfaction and enjoyment for the proud owners, ensuring that this home will stand tall for decades to come in the hills of Dural.
