The clients were looking to renovate the back of their Double Bay home to accommodate extra rooms, including a kitchen and scullery. But when Dan Kitchens came on board, the project took an unexpected turn – and became the company’s biggest job to date. It was discovered early in the design process the size of the existing space could not fit everything the clients wanted.
When this was communicated to the clients, they decided to demolish the rear of the home and rebuild so they could have the rooms they wanted, without compromise. Once the clients were confident with the way Dan Kitchens worked, the rest of the joinery within the home was commissioned. In total, Dan Kitchens Australia designed, built and installed joinery in over 20 rooms. Reflective of the understated elegance we bring to homes across Double Bay, Bellevue Hill and Darling Point.
The laundry shares many of the materials, fittings and features as the kitchen (also includes a tall wine fridge).

Within the living room, a low cabinet conceals a retractable TV. The TV is taller than the cabinet so partially retracts into the concrete slab.

Space was allocated around the home (including the kitchen) for displaying the client’s many cherished artworks.
Traditonal detailing such as pewter handles, recessed panel doors, corning and skirting contrast with the dark timber panels and modern appliances. Beyond the kitchen is home to the scullery and wine storage.

What began as a kitchen and scullery renovation developed into a comprehensive joinery project spanning more than 20 rooms. Rebuilding the rear of the residence created the space required for the clients’ original brief, while the subsequent whole-home commission allowed the kitchen, laundry, living spaces, wardrobes and other custom joinery to be developed with a consistent standard of detailing and manufacture. The completed project demonstrates the benefit of carrying one design and fabrication approach across a large and complex residential interior.
