Situated in a delightful freestanding residence in the heart of Darlinghurst, this kitchen renovation by Dan Kitchens transformed an impractical and tired space into a striking, modern sanctuary tailored specifically for the homeowners—a discerning middle-aged couple. The original kitchen suffered from insufficient storage, a cumbersome layout, and inadequate ventilation, making it unsuitable for their lifestyle and culinary ambitions.
Dan Kitchens’ designer, Daniel Mazic, thoughtfully reimagined the layout, significantly enhancing practicality. Notably, the Fisher Paykel refrigerator was repositioned closer to the kitchen’s centre—an initially controversial choice that, after thoughtful consideration and expert guidance, gained approval from the homeowners. By narrowing down nib walls and raising ceiling cavities in close collaboration with the builders, Daniel maximised every millimetre, substantially increasing storage capacity and expanding bench space, ensuring optimal usability.
A tower stack for the ovens was introduced, elevating appliances from underbench locations to a more ergonomic and user-friendly height. This clever adjustment not only increased convenience but also created additional drawer space in the cooking zone. Crucially, the outdated recirculating rangehood was replaced with an effective ducted system, discreetly integrated to maintain the kitchen’s clean aesthetic while dramatically improving indoor air quality.
Aesthetically, the homeowners sought a striking industrial look to reflect their vibrant personalities. Daniel Mazic delivered precisely that, pairing rich, bold colours with tactile surfaces and subtle industrial touches. The end result is a custom kitchen that harmoniously blends style with functionality—perfectly aligned with the homeowners’ modern sensibilities, significantly improving their everyday living experience in Darlinghurst.

Rather than undertaking a complete overhaul, we worked within the existing kitchen footprint, refining the layout to improve efficiency and enhance the overall user experience. Our design process was deeply influenced by the architectural elements of the home, ensuring that the kitchen felt like a natural extension of its surroundings.
