Bellevue Hill Kitchen

Dan Kitchens Australia was approached by the homeowners to help renovate their kitchen, with a goal of creating a practical space with a subtle colour scheme while allowing for creative freedom in the overall design. The homeowners, who were avid art fans, wanted the kitchen to have a sculptural form that would make a bold statement. Key priorities included maximizing storage efficiency, increasing benchtop space, and incorporating high-performance, user-friendly appliances, along with ensuring ease of maintenance and a design that supported casual dining. The result was a space that balanced high-quality finishes, exceptional craftsmanship, and a visually striking yet functional layout.

The project’s design was particularly influenced by the use of Corian for the benchtops and splashback. Corian was chosen for its practicality, as it allowed the components to be fabricated in manageable pieces, transported easily into the apartment, and then seamlessly welded on-site, eliminating the need for visible seams. This was a key factor in overcoming typical access challenges in apartment renovations. Corian’s Neutral Concrete finish provided a matte, concrete-like appearance without the issues of natural stone, such as porosity or weight. The material’s durability and warmth made it ideal for a kitchen environment. The addition of Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, along with a custom-designed veneer credenza and wine area, enhanced both the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the space, ensuring that the kitchen and adjoining areas felt cohesive and thoughtfully designed.

Only a few alterations were made to walls and bulkheads, with the kitchen island and adjoining table extending only a little into the lounge area.

The renovation took into account the fixed materials (like marble tiles) and geometry of the space, harmonising with them.

The understated colour palette for the kitchen was chosen for its ability to softly blend with the space, allowing the homeowners art to stand out.

Pocket doors conceal a handy appliance niche, with an extra deep drawer for larger benchtop appliances.

Corian Neutral Concrete has a subtle left to right patina across the slab, and a matt finish reminiscent of concrete flooring. Being Corian, it allowed for seamless joins.

Opposite the kitchen is the dining area, with a custom made credenza for wine storage and cutlery.
